Thanks for the heads up, I am aware of the difference between "Remove From Inventory" and "Prepare Your Resume, this ain't gonna be good."
What is concerning me is a line from this page: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1006160
"Note: Bypassing vCenter Server to register a virtual machine may cause a mismatch between the host and the vCenter Server inventory and may cause unexpected results."
And "unexpected results" concerning the server running vCenter can lead to another one of those 'resume creating events.'
So to be clear:
I can shut down the servers running vCenter and its SQL database, attach the viClient to the current host, remove from inventory, attach the viClient to the new host, add to inventory, and then power on the SQL server followed by the vCenter server and nothing bad will happen?
As I mentioned before, the datastores and networks are configured identically on the current host and the new host. And I have already done cold migrations on regular guests through vCenter and they worked fine. My focus is just the two VMs running vCenter and SQL for vCenter. No IP's are changing, no names are changing.
Thanks again.
